Do your kids need a way to get interested in reading? Here's another way to make them have to like it!
Need a nice gift certificate? We're going to have a raffle to get a gift certificate to Powell's book store with $15 on it, and all you have to do is leave a comment on my blog about your favorite book for young readers & why you like it, and make sure to leave your name and E-mail address so I can E-mail you if you're the winner. And remember, only one comment per person. But you can still tell your friends about my website so they can enter the contest, too.
Children and adults are can both enter the contest.
Powell's book store is one of the biggest book stores in the world, and they also have some of the best stickers in the world. It's really large and has a lot of books for children and adults.
Good Luck!
Hi there, well I just found your blog from a comment your mom made on finslippy's site. I am the mom of a 5.5 year old and was curious about books that kids are enjoying as opposed to just books I want my little guy to read. I'm about to dig into your site and check it out! Keep reading!!

OK...I'm breaking the rules by adding more than one comment but it's only because I didn't pay attention to the rules in the first place by writing a comment that included a book for kids. SORRY! I recently finished reading some Beverly Cleary books (Ramona & Beezus and Ramona The Pest) to my 5.5 year old and he really enjoyed them. I loved them as a child and thought he might be able to relate since Ramona is close to his age. I like them because I don't find Ramona to be a bratty kid she's just curious but sometimes gets into trouble because of it, like a lot of kids I suppose. So, that's my book recommendation. Sorry to not have paid attention, I've been out of school too long :)
ReplyDeleteA Cricket in Times Square and The Indian in the Cupboard are both sure to hook a young reader. Your Uncle J especially loved The Great Brain books.
ReplyDeleteCool Chloe! I'll make sure Audrey checks in later. As for me, I love, love, LOVE the Harry Potter books. I can't decide which is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteThe title is called Eragon. It's a really good book and I think all young readers should read it. There's a series. It has three books in it. I must say, it is quite interesting. You think you're actually in the book! I also think you should read Inkheart. It's a really gooooooooood book. I love it! I have lots of other books that I like to share, too. I like the Emily Windsnap books and the Tinkerbell and Friends books. And the Mystery of the Biltmore House. My grandmother lives near the Biltmore House.
ReplyDeleteThis is Kristine's husband in Oregon. I am going to put a plug in for The Boxcar Children series. We have been reading them with our 5 year old and love the simplicity of a family of children working together to solve mysteries. It has been fun to rediscover Henry, Violet, Jessie, and Benny Alden. For independent reading, James has really been enjoying the Magic Tree House books. For older readers (4/5th grade) I love the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. They are fantastic!

ReplyDeleteHi Chloe! My favorite book to read that I think everyone would like is Happy Birthday Mrs.Piggle Wiggle. It is about a lady named Mrs.Piggle Wiggle who knows all about children and has special cures for them. She does things like making two kids named Kitten and Sean who love T.v. and want to stay up late every night watching T.V. not like it so much. There are lots of different cures for different children in this book. And at the end of the book Mrs.Piggle Wiggle has a birthday party.

Dear Little Clover,
ReplyDeleteYou are our favorite book reviewer--maybe someday your blog will become so renowned that you'll have to hire my gals to write reviews. You could be really strict with deadlines and line edits and do dramatic things like toss their drafts in wastebaskets and say, 'Readers deserve better!' If we win your generous prize, we will probably buy the next book in the Chrestomanci series and another Horrible Harry, which my second reader enjoys because she is quiet and shy but has great dreams of behaving horribly--right beneath her teacher's nose. Have you read Rapunzel's Revenge? Maybe you should win the prize and pick that up for yourself.
Keep on with the fine work!
Dear Little Clover,
ReplyDeleteThanks for holding this great contest! My favorite book is Rapunzel's Revenge, a graphic novel by Shannon and Dean Hale. It's about a braid-toting outlaw, Rapunzel, trying to seek revenge against the woman who kidnapped her as a baby. Rapunzel goes through a series of adventures with her friend, Jack, such as roping outlaws and killing sea serpents. The Hales give Rapunzel such a strong voice. She comes to life in my mind. The pictures by Nathan Hale are bright and beautiful. My favorite line is when Rapunzel talks to her mother after Rapunzel rescues her. Rapunzel says, " A drink in the desert is good, but this was better.' I love this book because I love adventure stories. Especially when girls are the heros and boys are the side-kicks.
Bye for now!

Dear Clover,
ReplyDeleteMy favorite books are Horrible Harry because it is very funny. My favorite Horrible Harry book is Horrible Harry and His Secret. Harry has a crush on Song Lee and he gives her a note saying, "Do you like me? A: not that much B: not at all."
I think it is really nice you are holding this contest.

Hello Little Clover,
ReplyDeleteLet's see...I think one of my favorite childrens book is Blueberries for Sal...I love how little Sal goes blueberry picking with her mama, and then ends up following a mama bear, then the little bear cub unknowingly follows Sal's Mama...too cute. I also love the simplistic illustrations that are drawn...I love old books!
I'm excited to see you wins the giveaway!!!
:)
Whats up Chloe?
ReplyDeleteI would have to say my favorite series of books are the Chronicles of Prydain. Its about an assistant pig-keeper who wants to be a hero and finds the prince of Prydain, who is on a quest to defeat the dark lord Arawn. On the way he meets some very odd people. I hope you read these great books!

Hey Little Chloever:
ReplyDeleteI have to second your grandma's nomination of the Great Brain books. I loved reading about his adventures where he would get into trouble yet somehow become the hero in the end. And he lived in Utah, which is where I was born, so it was kind of interesting in that way too. I also liked the Encyclopedia Brown books. Choose your own adventure books were cool too. At the end of every few pages you can choose where the story goes so you sort of write the story yourself. Keep readin as Governor Palin would say!
Chloe,
ReplyDeleteI loved the Little House on the Prairie and the Anne of Green Gable series when I was your age and older. But I don't have a girl old enough to read so I have found the Magic Tree House series for Eric (9). We both like them because it is a very interesting story with parts of real history in it. I don't you to enter me in the give-a-way because we live in ALbuquerque, NM and we do not have a Powell Books here. I only wanted to share our favorite books with you.
Becca ~ your Mom's friend from high school.
Well, the giveaway's over! But thanks everyone who left a comment on this post for giving me a great new line of books I want to read. Please keep posting new comments on this post, because there are still more books out there I still want to read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
